Chairman

Mr. Marcus Hill MBE FRICS

Marcus is a retired Chartered Surveyor. In 1971, in his own village of Staining he became a founding member of a charitable fund raising association that aspired to one day being able to build a Village Hall. Though his village did not have a hall, he started attending Lancashire Village Halls Meetings in the mid 1970’s . gleaning much knowledge from those meetings and the halls that hosted them, which he put to good use when he designed the hall for Staining.

In 1997 on information from Lorraine Wilson who was the main speaker at the AGM of this Association, he applied for and was successful in obtaining a grant of £300.000 from the National Lottery Charities Board, towards the building of Staining Village Hall. He then completed the working drawings and wrote the specification to obtain tenders, all of which were within the budget. The contractor commenced work on site in April 1998 and the Hall was opened by the Rt. Hon Michael Jack MP in April 1999.

Marcus joined the Executive Committee of this association in 1996, from 2001 to 2009. He has served as Vice Chairman initially to the late Steve Gaunt and more recently to Audrey Weatherill. Early in 2010 he was elected to the position of Chairman. In the year 2000 he was awarded the MBE for services to the community of Staining in Lancashire.
